The Parkinson's Exercise and Wellness Center offers a low-impact exercise therapy in Mat Pilates. While the exercises vary, the principles of Pilates never change: centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flowing. While other exercise methods focus on the motor symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, Pilates improves the brain-body integration by syncing breath and movement. A well-functioning nervous system sends messages through the brain to the spine and surrounding muscles more effectively. 


Originally called Contrology, Mat Pilates combines methods of yoga, martial arts and the human anatomy to create a well-rounded form of exercise. While improving physical and mental faculties, it increases agility, flexibility and range of motion while toning and improving posture. This program is more approachable for people who don't regularly exercise.
